Helen Rogers, 82, of Main Street, Glace Bay, passed away on Monday, Sept. 22, 2014, at Seaview Manor, Glace Bay.
Born in Stellarton, she was the daughter of the late Bernard and Theresa (Lewis) MacGillivary.
Helen took great pride and joy in being a wife, mother and especially a grand and great-grandmother. Family was the cornerstone of her life. She loved animals and had a great admiration for cats.
Helen is survived by her husband, Alfred Rogers, daughter, Norma Rogers Farrell, Glace Bay, son, Gerald ‘Gerry’ (Gail), Port Hood, sister, Marie Crispo, Monastery, brothers, Michael (Vera), Gerald (Carolyn), both in Sydney Mines, John (Heather) and James, both in Ontario. Helen is survived by six grandchildren, Kimberly LeBlanc (Chris), Bradley LeBlanc (Rebecca), Jason Farrell (Janet), Craig Farrell (Nicole), Justin Rogers, Ashli Rogers, two great-grandchildren, Emma Rogers and Jenna Farrell.
She was predeceased by a son, George Rogers, daughter, Marie LeBlanc, sisters, Lois Monaghan, Joan Pearcey, Diane Jesty, brothers, Joe, Gerard and one in infancy.
Visitation, Thursday from 2-4, 7-9 p.m. in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. The funeral mass, officiated by Rev. Leo Boone is Friday, 10 a.m. in St. Anne’s Church followed by interment in the parish cemetery. Reception to be held in the church foyer.
As an expression of sympathy for Helen, donations in her memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
