GEORGE G. STEPANENKO
July 7, 1948 - September 22, 2014
On the last day of summer, we said goodbye to George Stepanenko, husband, friend and beloved member of the community. Born in Belgium on July 7, 1948, George and his family moved to Canada via Quebec and then Calgary, where he graduated from Forest Lawn High School. George and Eadie met in Calgary in 1965, while in high school, and moved to the Sunshine Coast in 1996. Together they opened One-O-One Office Supply in Sechelt. George loved music, writing, reading and walking his dogs. He was a quiet, gracious man who was able to bring out a smile in everyone, and infamous for handing out gold-wrapped Werthers candies. He understood and appreciated the unique qualities in others and the warmth of his love will linger like the memory of a summer sun.
George is survived by his wife Eadie, his son Sam, his step-daughter Melanie (Brett), three beautiful grandchildren, numerous friends and two beloved dogs, Daisy and Elmo.
Thank you to Sunshine Coast Hospice and palliative care nurses Jill and Tracey for all their help and caring. As well, we express our sincere gratitude to our friends and neighbours for rearranging their lives to help us. To those gifted individuals with their special abilities, thank you for making George more comfortable and preparing him for his final journey.
Memorial donations can be made to your favourite animal charity. A celebration of George’s life will be held at a later date.
