Juanita 'Nita' Matheson, 94, of Glace Bay passed away peacefully with loving family at her side on Saturday, Sept. 27, 2014, at Northwood Care in Halifax.
Born in Glace Bay, she resided on Highland Street until 2006 when she moved to Northwood Care in Halifax. She was the daughter of the late George and Laura Clements.
She was a member of St. Mary’s Anglican Church for many years, and participated in the Junior Guild, the Sanctuary Guild and as a Nursery Sunday School teacher.
Mom was an avid ice skater, bowler and enjoyed card games. She had been employed in Glace Bay at Lynk Hardware Store and at Lighters Jewellery Store.
She is survived by her daughter Beverley (Henry) Cox , Lower Sackville; son Kenneth (Marg) Matheson, Burlington, Ont.; grandchildren, Ryan, Shelley and Cherie; great-grandchildren, Lauren and Mason; brother Chester (Reta) Clements, Glace Bay and a number of nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents Mom was predeceased by her husband of 64 years Donnie Matheson, her sister Kay Huestis, Connecticut, USA and a stepsister Alma.
Visitation for Nita will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 1, 2014, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Patten Funeral Home & Chapel, 71 Union St., Glace Bay. Funeral services will be held at St. Mary's Anglican Church on Thursday, Oct. 2, 2014, at 11 a.m. with Myrna MacMullin officiating. Following the service interment will be at Forest Haven Memorial Gardens.
