Walter Chase

CHASE, WALTER DAVID - Peacefully at the age of 96, Walter was called to God on September 26, 2014 in Ottawa, Ontario. Walter was born in Saint John, New Brunswick on August 3, 1918 and lived most of his life there before retiring to Nauwigewauk N. B. and then moving to Ottawa to be close to his daughter and son-in-law. He was a good husband, a loving father and the head of a blooming family. Walter is survived by Phyllis Chase (nee Day), his wife of 74 years and the love of his life, whom he met skating on Lily Lake. He will be greatly missed by his son Walter James Chase (Irene); son James Aisaican-Chase (Phyllis deceased, and second wife Anngyllal), and daughter Mary Hartery (Dolan). Walter was pre-deceased by both his daughter Gwendolyn Behroozi and son-in-law Cyrus. Walter was a proud and loving grandfather to 13 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild. Walter was an all-round athlete and sportsman, playing baseball for the 1942 New Brunswick provincial champions, the Ironmen. He was an avid hunter, fly fisherman and outdoor guide.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or to the charity of your choice. At Walter’s request, there will be a simple service of internment at the grave side with family and friends. Date to be announced.
