VIOLET MARTHA STRICKLAND
November 15, 1935 – September 28, 2014

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Violet Martha Strickland announces her passing on Sunday, September 28th at the Dr. Charles L. LeGrow Health Centre at the age of 78. Besides her parents, the late Wallace and Annie (nee Taylor) Lawrence, stepmother Lucy Lawrence, she was predeceased by her husband Charles Strickland and her brother Leslie Lawrence. She leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories her companion Thomas Benoit; children: Annie (Walter) Anderson Port aux Basques, Lillian (Barry) Ayres Fortune, Herman (Arlene) Wells Toronto, ON, Terry (Leigh) Wells Toronto, ON, James Wells Ontario, Murray (Edith Savory) Strickland Halifax, NS, Lavina Strickland, Halifax, NS; stepchildren: Cassie Osmond, Julie Brown, Maggie Strickland; grandchildren: Tracey Farrell, April Anderson, Melanie Ayres, Justin Ayres, Robyn Ayres, Mark Strickland, Felicia MacNeil, Crystal Scopie, Annie Scopie, Billy Wells and John Wells, and 18 great grandchildren. She will forever remain in the hearts of her brothers and sisters George, Tom, Albie, Stan, Laura, Jeanie, Maggie, Kay and Sadie, two home care workers Diane and Angela Lawrence plus a large circle of nieces, nephews, and many close friends. Visitation took place on Monday, September 29 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. In keeping with Violet's wishes, cremation has taken place. Funeral service took place on Wednesday, October 1st at 10 a.m. from St. James Anglican Church, Channel-Port aux Basques with Rev. Canon Hannah Dicks officiating. Interment followed at St. James Anglican Cemetery, Barachois Hill. Flowers accepted or donations in Violet's memory may be made to the family.
