Douglas Cosman

COSMAN, DOUGLAS “DOUG” REGINALD - 82 of Halifax, formerly of Saint John, NB, passed away on October 23rd in the QEII Hospital VG Site.
Born in Saint John, NB he was a son of the late Reginald and Gladys Cosman. Doug began his career in Saint John with Canadian General Insurance. He transferred to Nova Scotia in 1961 and was promoted to Branch manager and later Regional Manager until his retirement. He then became an Inspector for the IAO which was the position he held until his second retirement. Doug loved the outdoors. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and photography. He looked forward to meeting his group of friends regularly in the Halifax Shopping Centre for coffee. One of his favorite pastimes was sitting on the deck at the camp at Murphy Lake listening to the sounds of nature. He also treasured long walks with his sweetheart Norma and spending time with his grandchildren. Doug is survived by his wife of 60 years Norma (Ingram); daughter Cindy (Larry) MacDonald, Halifax; son Richard (Velma), Edmonton, AB ; sisters Vivian (Jim) Porter, Phyllis Gallop, both of Saint John; brother, Don (Marie), West Kelowna, BC; grandsons, Andrew MacDonald, Nicholas MacDonald, Eric Cosman, and Tyler MacDonald and several nieces and nephews. He will also be missed by his cat Noelle. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his grandparents; Nettie and William Cosman who were very close to him in his younger years.
Cremation has taken place. A visitation will be held on Wednesday October 29th from 1 to 2pm in Atlantic Funeral Home, 771 Main Street Dartmouth, where the memorial service will be held immediately following at 2pm in the funeral home chapel. Interment in Dartmouth Memorial Gardens with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society. The family would like to thank Dr. Wojtek Morzycki and Dr. Graeme Bethune for the kindness and support they offered and also to the Palliative Care unit for the special care they provided to Doug.
