GRANT, FREDERICK ALLEN “FRED” - Fred passed away at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital on Friday, October 24, 2014 surrounded by his loving family. Husband of the late Jean (Hossack) Grant , he was born in Milo, Maine on June 1, 1920, a son of the late Clarence and Annie (Holland) Grant. Fred is survived by his sons, Danny (Linda), John, Paul, Jerry (Carolyn MacKay),Tony, all of Fredericton; daughter, Barbara Leachman (Steven) of Burtts Corner,NB; grandchildren, Kelly Grant, Jeff Grant, Paula Grant, Victoria Leachman, Lisa Leachman, Brittany Grant, and Hayley Grant; great-grandchildren, Jessica, Brooklyn, Tracker and Jordan. In addition to his wife of 67 years, he was predeceased by infant daughter, Patricia; sister, Josephine (Grant) Morehouse; brother, Donald Grant; daughter-in-law, Janice (Mofford) Grant. He was a unique person and worked hard to provide a good life for his family in Barker’s Point. During his career he worked for Ashley Colter and the Department of Natural Resources where he retired at age 66. He was known as a handyman who was able to fix anything and a beautiful skater who enjoyed skating at the Lady Beaverbrook Rink. He loved being outdoors whether gardening, cutting his own wood or building a log cabin. He enjoyed playing cards, having played his last game of 45’s at the camp in Durham on Thanksgiving Day. He enjoyed being around family and friends and in particular his grandchildren. There are many stories and memories that will endure, of a life lived to the fullest. The family wishes to extend their appreciation to the emergency room staff of the Dr Everett Chalmers Hospital, Dr Gordon Plummer, and Meals on Wheels.
There will be no visitation. A funeral service to celebrate Fred’s life will be held on Tuesday, October 28, 2014 at 2pm at St Andrews Presbyterian Church, 512 Charlotte Street, Fredericton with Rev Blaikie officiating. A reception will follow in the church hall. In lieu of flowers, donations made to the Fredericton SPCA or the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated by the family.
