It is with great sadness that we, the family of Mary Ellen Cusack, announce her death on Wednesday, Oct. 29, 2014, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital in Sydney.
Born in Sydney on June 6, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Roderick and Rose (Lee) MacNeil.
Mary was a lifelong member of St. Mary’s Parish, East Bay. She was employed by Canada Post for over 30 years as postmaster in Sydney Forks.
Known for her love of Bridge, Mary spent many wonderful afternoons with her Bridge partners and loved her friends and family and was always delighted to visit their homes and have them visit her. She had a wonderful sense of humour and often entertained everyone with her stories.
She is survived by seven children: Sharon (Gilles), New Glasgow; Gary, Antigonish; Carol (Tom), Edmonton; Colleen, Sydney; Maureen, Sydney Forks; Valerie (Paul), Oakville, Ont., Ken (Kimberley), Lake Loon, N.S. and by her daughter-in-law, Carol of Ontario.
She is also survived by her brother, Joseph (Reta) MacNeil, Toronto; 15 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Mary was predeceased by her loving husband, Adrian; her son, Brian; her sister, Eileen; her brother, Donald; her daughter-in-law, Anne Cusack and Brooke May, infant daughter of Maureen.
Visitation for Mary will be held on Saturday, Nov. 1, from 7-9 p.m. and Sunday, Nov. 2, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at T.W.Curry Parkview Chapel. Funeral mass to celebrate Mom’s life will be held on Monday, Nov. 3, at 2:30 p.m. at St. Mary’s Church in East Bay, Fr. Frank Abbass officiating. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery.
Mary was known for her generosity and so donations in her name may be made to a charity of ones’ choice.
