We regret to announce the peaceful passing of Trudy Young, 80, of Sydney Mines, on Friday, Oct. 31, 2014, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Sydney Mines on April 24, 1934, Trudy was the daughter of the late William and Mary Jane Gardiner.
She was a member of the former Immaculate Conception parish, Sydney Mines, and she was also a member of the North Sydney Seniors and Pensioners Club.
Mom was an amazing seamstress, dancer, bowler, and a ‘social butterfly.’ She was the best mother, grandmother, sister, friend, and teacher.
Trudy loved travelling to Hinton and Yellowknife to see her children and grandchildren. She especially loved the camping trips in the motorhome with Raymond and Sue, road trips with Terry and Colleen, and most recently her trip to Newfoundland with Jim and Callista, to see the icebergs.
She is survived by her loving daughters, Callista (Jim) Parsons, North Sydney, Debbie (Keith) MacLeod and Donna, both of Sydney Mines; her loving son Terry (Colleen), Yellowknife, and daughter-in-law Sue Young, Hinton. She also leaves behind her grandchildren, Shane (Suzi) Young, Joe (Sarah) Young, Gardiner McCarthy, Sean McCarthy, and great-grandchildren, Piper McCarthy and Mya Young.
She was reunited with her many half-siblings, starting in 2001. She loved them all.
Besides her parents, Trudy was predeceased by her son Raymond, husband Donald, sister and brother-in-law Sally and John Quinn.
Trudy’s family would like to thank the Palliative Care Unit at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, the Von nurses, and Dr. Jenson and staff.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation for Trudy Young will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 5, 2014, from 2-5 p.m. in J.M. Jobes Funeral Home, 635 Main St., Sydney Mines. A celebration of her life will take place Thursday, at 2 p.m. in the funeral home with Deacon Greg Murphy officiating. A reception will be held in the Holy Family parish hall, after the service.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Trudy’s memory may be made to the Cape Breton Cancer Center, or the An Cala Palliative Care Unit.
Expressions of sympathy may be forwarded to the family at www.jmjobesfuneralhome.com.
