NEW GLASGOW/CAPE BRETON – It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Joseph Hillarie Raney, who passed away November 2, 2014 with his loving daughter and granddaughter by his side.
Born on July 6, 1931 in Point Michaud, Cape Breton, he was a son of the late Michael and Mary-Agnes (Gracie) Raney.
Joe was a fisherman, boat builder, avid hunter who loved the outdoors and whose heart never left Cape Breton. He had a great sense of humor, loved to play cards and watching the Blue Jays. Joe moved to Glen Haven Manor almost five years ago, he loved the nurses who made his stay a memorable one. Joe will be greatly missed.
Joe was predeceased by his son, Kelly, daughter, Anita, brothers: John, Michael and Richard; sisters: Catherine, Agnes, Betty and Martha, and son-in-law, William Fleming.
He is survived by his sister, Mary (Raney) MacKay; sons, Perry and Byron; daughters, Tilda and Rosetta; son-in-law, Gerald; and grandchildren: Amanda, Shanel, Corey and William, all of whom he was so proud.
Funeral service Thursday morning at 11 a.m. in the R.H. Porter Funeral Home Chapel, New Glasgow, with Father Gary MacPherson officiating. The family would like to thank the nursing staff at Glen Haven Manor for the love and care they have given Joe over the last five years.
