Reverend Father Ronald Thomas Hollohan

Reverend Father Ronald Thomas Hollohan

Date de naissance : 25 mai 1926

Date de décès : 31 octobre 2014

Our “Father” Ron passed away at 88 years of age with family by his side. Father Ron was a wonderful husband, father, teacher and priest who touched the lives of so many in such a positive way.
Father Ron is survived by his beautiful wife of 62 years, Mary (Doucette), the love of his life, and his three children, Sean (Dee), Sharon (John) and Colleen (Peter); and his daughter-in-law, Paula. He leaves behind 13 grandchildren, Liam, Evan, Sara, Colin, Katie, Laura, Shannon, Adam, Michael, David, Andrew, Blair and Ben; and three great-grandchildren, Madelynn, Gordon and Gavin.
He was predeceased by his son, Brian; parents, Patrick and Mary-Ellen, four brothers; in-laws, John and Nora Doucette and brother-in-law, Johnny.
Shortly after his birth in Newfoundland the family moved to Cape Breton where he lived and worked. Father Ron was a truly special man with accomplishments that continue to hold us in awe. A very intelligent man with a wide range of interests, he earned three degrees from St. Francis Xavier University in Antigonish, N.S.
Father Ron never stopped reading and learning. After retiring from teaching at the age of 62, he completed a theology degree from St. Paul University in Ottawa in 1991 and traveled to Ukraine to be ordained. He moved west where he spent the next 20 years serving the Ukrainian Catholic Church across Alberta. During his years teaching and serving the church he touched the lives of so many people in such positive ways. Father Ron had an incredibly positive attitude and recognized the good in everyone.
Father Ron loved his family and especially enjoyed family dinners whether sitting around the dining room or enjoying the sun on our back decks. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren were very special to him; his face would immediately light up with a big smile when they visited. He always took the time to chat with people at church, a store or when just down the street for a stroll. When among family, friends or strangers, Father Ron exhibited his entertaining sense of humour. We will all miss him dearly; Heaven is much richer today.
The family would like to thank staff at Touchmark long-term care facility for the compassionate care provided to Father Ron.
