DONNA MERLE ELIZABETH PRETTY (nee Finch)

DONNA MERLE ELIZABETH PRETTY (nee Finch)

June 18, 1936 ~ November 1, 2014
Donna passed away in the early morning hours with family by her side. She put up an incredible fight with cancer over the past year and is finally out of pain and at peace.
Predeceased by her parents George and Rita Finch, Donna is survived by her son Christopher (Muriel), grandchildren Maeve and Wyatt, brothers Lance (Judy) Finch and Livingston (Laura) Finch, former husband Waynne Pretty, nieces Andrea (Mike) and Laura (Tom), nephews Michael (Kathy), Paul and Adam, and many others to whom Donna was a special aunt or cousin.
Donna’s love of nature was unrivalled and was her source of being, healing and inspiration. She was a great explorer, having travelled to the far corners of the earth and rafted the great rivers of western and northern Canada, and many of these trips while well into her 70s. She loved hitting the road in her van, could tell you about camping in any park in BC, and was always planning her next adventure.
She was a lifelong learner and always interested in others. In her career as a registered (Adlerian) psychologist and teacher, she worked for over 35 years with children and parents in the Vancouver school system. Her retirement took her to the Sunshine Coast, where she was an active and engaged member of the community,  involved in many clubs, groups and choirs.
She was an exceptional human being and will be missed by family and friends alike. The family would like to thank Donna’s doctors and the palliative care teams of St. Mary’s and St. Paul’s Hospitals and of the North Shore Hospice.
A celebration of Donna’s life will be held at Larson Station (Clubhouse) at the Gleneagles Golf Course in West Vancouver on Sunday, December 14 from 1 to 4 p.m. Friends are welcome to attend.
