ATWOOD, Abner Atwood, 93, The Hawk, Shelburne County, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 2, 2014 at Yarmouth Regional Hospital. Born at The Hawk on May 22, 1921, he was the son of the late Samuel and Adria (Nickerson) Atwood. He was an avid hunter especially in his younger years but as years went on he was content to watch deer, feed birds and chipmunks at his cottage in Beaverdam. He was a member of the Shelburne County Golf Course since it opened and played golf until his later years. Abner is survived by his loving daughter, Gail (Jackie) Nickerson, North East Point; four grandchildren, Joe (Melanie), Renee (Tim), Marty and Michael; nine great grandchildren, Kaleigh, Kassidy, Lukas, Caleb, Dillan, Julian, Ocean, Noah, Sailor; one great great grandchild, Faith; three sisters, Mildred, Donna, Carolyn; two brothers, Warren, Rawleigh; and daughter-in-law Betty. He was predeceased by his wife, Margaret; son, Gary; sisters, Viola, Edith; brothers, Samuel Jr., Sable, Sheldon, Richard and Anson. The funeral service was held on Wednesday, November 5 from the New Testament Baptist Church, The Hawk, with Rev. Paul Lavender and Rev. Bill Lea officiating. Interment was in the Evergreen Cemetery, Lower Clark’s Harbour. Memorial donations made by made to the Evergreen Cemetery, New Testament Baptist Church, Rosalin Nickerson Care Fund, or a charity of your choice.
