George MacFarlane

MACFARLANE, "GEORGE” WILLIAM - “George” William MacFarlane of Vernon Bridge, PEI, passed away suddenly on October 20, 2014 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. George was born in Saint John, New Brunswick on October, 6, 1948. He graduated from High School and continued on to obtain various Trade Certificates and later a College Certificate in Business Administration, Business Law and Marketing. George was married to Beverly Joy (Murray) on August 17, 1968; they were married for 46 years. George worked as a Furnace Mechanic, Electric Motor Technician and as a Journeyman Electrician, (Red Seal). As an Electrician throughout his career he had increasingly responsible positions in electrical, mechanical preventive maintenance, resource management, fleet management, health and safety, financial and facilities management. He was Electrical/Mechanical Supervisor in various food and aquaculture processing plants. He was Operations Manager at Curran and Briggs for seven years. George spent the last several years working at various mining sites (diamond, gold, and nickel and pot ash) in Canada, and most particularly enjoyed working in the northern Canada Exploration Camps. George then moved on to work in Oil Refineries and most recently working on site at the nickel processing plant being constructed in Argentia, Newfoundland. Georges favorite hobbies were: Fly fishing, RV’n (camping), cooking and bowling, he loved the outdoors. He volunteered as a Fireman, an Instructor at Community School, and was a member of the Lions Club. He won many Safety Awards including the Golden Helmet and was an active member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW). George will be especially remembered for his willingness to always give a helping hand, his spirit of adventure, his desire to learn and share what he learned, his love for the youth and the tenaciousness that allowed him to achieve top rankings in many diverse endeavors. George is survived by his wife Joy, son Clint (Sheryl) Kinross, grandchildren Emilia Joy Phalen, Gabe MacFarlane, and Payton MacFarlane , sisters Sharon (Malcolm)Peterson, Calgary, Ariel Laird, Hampton, NB, Frances (Tim) Broomer, Calgary and his brother David(Patricia) Quispamsis, NB, several nieces and nephews. George is preceded in death by his parents, Cora Alberta (Dryden) and Clarence William (Mac) MacFarlane, Saint John, NB, his son Bill Murray MacFarlane, Summerside, PEI and his brother-in-law Bobby Laird, Hampton, NB.
The funeral services were held Friday, October 24, at 130 pm at the Hillsboro Funeral Home, Stratford Chapel Pastor Dennis Wells officiated at the ceremony. The Organist was Kathleen MacDonald. Memorial Donations to the Canadian Cancer Society, Heart and Stroke were received. Honorary Pallbearers were Chad Atkinson, Cory Hogg, Blair Sheppard, Joel McDermaid, Eugene Howatt, Raymond Jones, Val Murray, Thomas Adams and Bob Brown. Interment in Saint Andrews United Church cemetery, Vernon Bridge, PEI. Thank you to Dr. D. Tweel, Staff at QEH Charlottetown, Dr. Omatosa and the Staff of the ICU at Saint John Regional Hospital.
