Fraser, James Edward - Jim passed away on Thursday, Nov. 13, 2014 in the QE II Health Science Centre, Halifax. Born in Antigonish, N.S., on April 22, 1947, Jim was a son of the late James Frederick and Hazel (Stone) Fraser, Somers Road. After graduation from high school in Antigonish, Jim worked in the construction industry prior to returning to the Nova Scotia Agriculture College (NSAC), from where he graduated in Agricultural Business Technology in 1969. Following graduation Jim worked with several local businesses including John D. MacDonald Farm Equipment in Antigonish, Carl Allen Collection Agencies in Truro and Trans Canada Credit, Truro and Amherst. Jim always had an interest in business ventures and was involved in several of his own, starting with a farm equipment and dairy supply business in the 1970s, followed by management of an Ultramar Service Station in Tatamagouche for the next 20 years. Following the closure of the service station, Jim worked for Earl Tucker Masonary and Edwin Cameron’s farm, Horse Power Hotel, for a period of time. Jim moved on to manage the North Colchester River Restoration Project for several years, prior to beginning his current position as manager of the Northumberland Fish Co-op, Toney River. Jim met his wife, Donna Langille while attending the NSAC. They were married in 1974 and purchased her parents farm in Bayhead in 1976. This began a lifelong dedication to the agricultural industry, beginning with a feeder hog operation, prior to switching to the beef and sheep sectors. Jim was a supporter of the Federation of Agriculture, Pork Producers Association, Cattle Producers, Northumberland Sheep Breeders and 4-H. Jim was currently president of the Nova Scotia Cattle Producers. Jim was renown as a story teller and conversationalist and interested in all manner of politics. He was an avid historian and could recount the family tree of most of his friends, neighbours and relatives. Since 1991 Jim faced many health issues but approached each with determination that he could and would get better. This time it was not to be. Jim is survived by his wife, Donna (Langille); daughter, Jamie May; and son, Tyler; sister: Rev. Bonnie Fraser, New Glasgow; brothers: William (Janet), Antigonish; Colin (Mary), Saint John, N.B.; and Paul (Sandra), Iqaluit, NU.; brother-in-law, Wilfred Monk, Burford, Ont. Jim was predeceased by his sister, Sharon Visitation will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 17 in Coulter’s Funeral Home, Tatamagouche (902-657-3288). Funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 18 in Sharon United Church in Tatamagouche, Rev. Penny Nelson officiating. Interment will be in Bayhead Cemetery.
