Phyllis Young, our warm, loving, gracious and feisty mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully and quietly on November 11, 2014, at the grand age of 102½. She will be so missed by her family; a vibrant part of our lives has departed, leaving us with many wonderful memories.
Mom was born on May 28, 1912, raised in Vancouver, married Alex in 1935 and had two daughters. She lived in North Vancouver and White Rock before moving to Sechelt in 2010.
She was predeceased by Alex in 1988 (married 53 years) her daughter Lorraine Ridding in 2008, her parents and siblings. She is survived by daughter Donna (Art Perry); grandsons Earl Perry (Janice), Sechelt; Duane Ridding (Julie), Seattle; granddaughters Susan Perry (Glen), Sechelt; Vicky Gastaldello and Kelly Ridding, White Rock; her four great-grandchildren, Riley Dixon, Jesse Perry-Huson, Sechelt, Joshua Gastaldello and Lara Gastaldello, White Rock; son-in-law Ian Ridding, White Rock and her niece Doreen Goldie, White Rock.
Our family wishes to thank Dr. Monica Marton for the compassionate, loving care she extended to Mom, Bobbie and the care aides at Totem Lodge who graciously and lovingly helped her through her final years, and her special friend Darlene, for her kindness to Mom.
A memorial tea will be held at Donna and Art’s home, 6354 Baillie Road, West Sechelt at 2 p.m. on Sunday, November 23. All who knew mom are most welcome to attend.
