Yvonne Bent Johnson
BENT JOHNSON, Yvonne Helen (1928-2014) – Fort Kent Maine -beloved mother, wife and partner of Dr. R. Paul Johnson, passed away on Sunday, Nov. 16, 2014, after a brief illness. She was surrounded by her loving family. Mrs. Johnson was born in Bridgetown, Nova Scotia on Feb. 29, 1928. She was the daughter of Raymond and Grace Ricketson Bent. She attended Bridgetown schools and Mount Allison University where she studied music and later earned her nursing cap and pin at Halifax Infirmary. From an early age, Johnson loved and excelled at singing. While growing up, she sang at festivals, weddings and community events. She sang in the choir at Providence United Church all through high school and even recorded many times with her sister, Avis. She then had the opportunity to study under professor Harold Homer from England at Mount Allison University, where she earned the highest marks for her quality of sound and exceptional soprano voice. She also had a flare for fashion, which was developed early in a job as a personal shopper in Simpson Sears in Halifax. Johnson was a loving wife, mother and grandmother - dedicated to her husband and family. She loved her husband's annual gardening produce and always cooked them into her abundance of recipes. She always had a home-cooked meal ready for family and friends; her family especially cherished her brownie and frosting recipe. She loved to sing, dance and entertain, but what she loved most was spending time with her family, whether in Fort Kent or at her camp that she designed and built in Eagle Lake. She was a devoted mother and wife who will be missed by all. Johnson was predeceased by her beloved son, Dr. Richard Paul Johnson, and her dear sisters Adele Bent Paterson and Avis Bent Crowell. In addition to her loving partner and husband of 64 years, Paul, she is survived by her three children; Dr. Robert Steven Johnson and his wife Bernice, daughter Linda Johnson and her husband Allan Norris, and son Dr. Peter Bent Johnson and wife Heather. She was blessed with nine grandchildren; Robert Matthew Johnson and wife Jennifer, Christopher Johnson, Curtis Johnson and wife Christina, Laura Johnson and husband Jonathon Riopel, Ashley and Kimberly Norris, Lauren Bragan, Grace and Samantha Johnson, as well as seven great-grandchildren; Natalie, Anna, Elle, Robert Owen, Ryan Johnson, and James and Isabella Riopel. By her request, there will be no visitation. A public reception was held Saturday, Nov. 22, 2014 at the Fort Kent Senior Citizen Center on Pine Street. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the University of Maine at Fort Kent's Dr. Richard Paul Johnson Scholarship Fund, to the Northern Maine Medical Center hospital guild, or to a charity of one’s choice.
