It is with broken hearts we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, “grampy”, brother and uncle, John Hugh MacNeil, on Sunday, Nov. 30, 2014 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Shenacadie, he was the son of the late John Hector and Rachel (MacKinnon) MacNeil.
John Hugh was a barber in Sydney for over 40 years. He also enjoyed repairing clocks and spending time with his gaelic friends at the Beaver Cove Takeout. His most enjoyable moments came from spending time with his family. We were all blessed to experience his interesting stories and wonderful caring heart.
He is survived by his wife, Ann (MacLean) MacNeil; daughter, Florence (Beau) Chiasson and his grandson, Stephen. Also by his brothers, John Alex, Baddeck, Neilie of Halifax, his sister, Rose (Albert) Fraser of Sydney; nieces, Roseanne and Jeanette Richard, Shelly and Carol Ann Fraser, Lynn, Judy and Julie Musgrave and his nephews, Stephen, Henry, Allen, Fred and John Richard, Albert, John, Allen and Sandy Fraser, Earl, Frankie, Danny, Lorne and Ricky Musgrave, Brian and John Pius MacNeil.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Stephen; infant brother, Allen Pius; sisters, Tena and Margaret and nieces, Louise and Tracey; sister-in-law, Margaret Rose MacNeil.
The family would like to extend special thanks to the doctors, nurses and staff at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital for their care and kindness.
Visitation will be 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, in St. Barra’s Church, Christmas Island. Funeral mass will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, from St. Barra’s Church, with Rev. Paul Abbass and Rev. Francis Cameron officiating. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery.
