Joseph Clarence Green

Date de décès : 4 décembre 2014

March 13, 1925 - December 4, 2014. After a life lived with pure selflessness, deep love of family, enormous integrity, hard work, and above all, fun, Joe passed away peacefully with Bill (Margaret Shapter), his partner for 70 years, at his side. Celebrating his long life and giving gratitude for his love are his wife Bill, their seven children: David (Shelley) Sidney BC, Denise Lewis (Max) Keller TX, Cathy Dutton (John), Rosanne Kirby (Fred), Donna Ball (Peter), Michael (Carolyn), Janet Miller (Brent) Maple Grove, MN; their seventeen grandchildren: Kenneth and Andrew Green and Sarah Loder, Stephen and Kimberly Lewis, Johnathan and Adam Dutton and Taryn Baker, Andrea and Eric Kirby, Gregory, Valerie and Christopher Ball, Hollilyn and Hannah Green, Zachary and Leah Miller; and ten great-grandchildren: Maggie Green, Henry and Millie Green, Brenden and Sophia Loder, Melina and Mila Lewis, Nathan Dutton, Isla Baker, and Chloe Mullett-Green. Bill and Joe lovingly welcomed six step-grandchildren as their own: Kieran and Dylan deTuberville, Christopher, Zachary, Caitlin and Erich Hynes. Also celebrating his life are his sisters Sandra (Gerry) Whalen, Shirley Hillier and brother, Ralph (Marie), and Bill's brother Bob (Maureen) Shapter, as well as special friends Bill and Jeannie Roberts. He was predeceased by his brother Bill (Madge). The son of Hayward Green (Hants Harbour) and Linda Rowe (Heart's Content), Joe grew up living what he called the best of both worlds, going to school in St. John's and spending the summers fishing in Hants Harbour and Winterton. He served nearly twelve years with the Sea Cadets, Terranova Corps and oversaw the startup of a new Corps at Mount Cashel Orphanage. A highly principled businessman, Joe is best known as President of TRA Newfoundland building the Foodland brand throughout the Province, helping many communities and their independent grocers. Joe was very active throughout his life from sports at Prince of Wales Collegiate (basketball, hockey, baseball), to bowling, skiing, golfing, and as he estimated, walking a million miles. He was an avid reader and gardener, a talented painter and wood carver, and had a knack for making good wine. Joe valued education and encouraged all in his family to pursue post-secondary studies. His family will receive visitors at Carnells Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Rd. on Friday December 5 and Saturday December 6 from 2 to 4 PM and 7 to 9 PM. Two of the most important things to Joe were a good celebration and having all his family together. Therefore, we will hold a service to celebrate his life later, when all family can be home. Special thanks to the staff at Cambridge Estates. In Bill's words, "He was a great man!" To send a message of condolence or sign the memorial guest book, please visit www.carnells.com.
