Georgene Kay MacPhee passed away suddenly on Wednesday, Dec. 3, 2014, at the age of 89 at her home in Parkland Estates, Halifax.
Born March 1, 1925 in Sydney Mines, she was the daughter of Bessie (MacKay) and Claude Meisner.
She is survived by daughters: Jean Vedova (JJ Hilsinger), Port Stanley, Ontario; Lynda van Heyningen (Dennis Oscarson), Pictou County; Claudette Hazlett (Brian), Hantsport; and Helen Martin (Maurice), Hammonds Plains. She is also survived by grandchildren, Craig, Troy and Dean Vedova; Michel, Melanie, Denis and Jean Paul Martin and Sonya and Brett van Heyningen; also one great-grandchild, Astisha Martin.
She was predeceased by her first husband, Dr. Wilson Strickland, her second husband, Arthur MacPhee, and her sister, Anna Hamilton.
She was a long-time member of St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church in Sydney Mines.
Mom loved to travel and step out on the dance floor. She enjoyed a day on the golf course and to spend time with family and friends. She will be missed.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 8 from the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home Chapel, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney with Rev. Marion Barclay-MacKay officiating.
