After her long eventful journey through life, Jesus wrapped His arms around our loving mother, grandmother and aunt, Kay Mac Phee, and took her home on Dec. 7, 2014. Kay was the youngest child of the late Giovanni and Irene (Vallas) Dezagiacomo.
Mom was a very devoted wife and mother who always put her family first. She always enjoyed her outings with her sisters and brothers and was an avid skater throughout her life. Her quiet courage, strength of spirit and sense of humor will be carried forward by all who knew and loved her. Because of her gentle ways, her grandchildren always thought of her as the storybook grandmother. She was a very faithful member of the former Parish of Mount Carmel, New Waterford, where she was a Eucharistic Minister and a member of the CWL.
A loving mother she is survived by her children, Raymond (Judy), Sydney, Anne Marie Poirier, Glace Bay, Elaine (Wayne) LeBlanc, Lr. East Pubnico, Greg (Pauline), New Waterford, Lowell, Lunenburg, Kevin, Glace Bay, Cordell (Maureen), Enfield; 11 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Besides her parents she was predeceased by her husband Raymond MacPhee, great-grandson Cameron Leudy, brothers, Dom (Egle) Dezagiacomo, Mike (Chris) Dezagiacomo, Gus (Dorothy) Dezagiacomo, sisters, Marie (Fred) McIvor, Cleo (Rod) MacIntyre, Josephine (Ralph) Petrella.
Visitation will be held Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith Street, New Waterford. A funeral mass of celebration will take place Thursday, Dec. 11 at 10 a.m. in the Parish Church of St. Leonard, Mount Carmel Avenue, with Fr. Norman MacPhee officiating. Burial will be in Mount Carmel Cemetery with a luncheon to follow at the Army, Navy, Airforce, Unit 217, New Waterford.
