Sylvia 'Tillie' Dolores MacLeod, a resident of Harbourstone Enhanced Care, Sydney, passed away Monday, Dec. 8, 2014.
Born in Sydney, she was a daughter of the late Sylvester and Catherine (MacIntosh) Mingarelli.
Tillie was formerly employed in the general office at the steel plant in Sydney, and most recently, was well known for her employment in the fabric department at Crowell’s Ltd. Tillie provided valuable advice to many people with her renowned knitting and sewing abilities, and fabric expertise. For many years, she was an active member of the St. Andrew’s United Church, helping out with knitting and some of her delicious food creations. In matters of kitchen cuisine, Tillie was extraordinary – as her husband and children were fortunate enough to experience for so many years.
Tillie was a very warm, spirited, quick-witted and caring person. She was beloved by her many nieces and nephews, and she had time for them all. Known as Aunt TT by nieces and nephews and Nana by her grandchildren, they all loved her dearly.
She is survived by her children, Paul, Victoria, B.C., David (Lisa), Riverview, N.B. and Allan, Sydney, N.S,; sisters, Judith Crane, Mabel (Ian) Rice and Marion Willis, all of Sydney; grandsons, Matthew, Ryan and Michael; great-granddaughter, Aubrey.
Tillie was predeceased by her husband, Kenneth Roland MacLeod, whom she was devoted to, and sisters, Elsie, Diana and Maxine, as well as brothers, Danny and Henry.
Visitation will take place at Sydney Memorial Chapel on Friday from 7-9 p.m. A memorial service will be held in the chapel on Saturday at 2 p.m., with Rev. Thomas Whent officiating. Interment will occur in May 2015 at Hardwood Hill Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia or the Canadian Cancer Society.
Thank you to all the caregivers at the Harbourstone facility who took loving care of Tillie during her stay there.
