A much loved Papa, Jim Edwards, passed away Dec. 22, 2014, at home surrounded by his loving family.
Granddaughters Megan, Madison, Abby and Gracie will miss picking berries, playing hopscotch, softball, drawing on the driveway and swimming with their Papa.
Jim started working in No. 12 mine at the tender age of 16 and he retired from Lingan where he was also a draegerman. He played softball with his fellow miners and badminton with members of the CYO. He was also an excellent dancer. Later in life he enjoyed golfing at Seaview and travelling, especially to Hawaii with Marilyn, his wife of 50 years. He was a lifetime 3rd degree Knight in the KOC Council 3209, New Waterford.
Jim is survived by his wife Marilyn (McMullin); daughters, Kelly (Lyndon) Chiasson and Tracy (Glenn) Dove; his brother Bernie as well as nieces, Karen, Geralyn, Michelle; nephews, Morris and Arnie; brother-in-law Lauchie (Doreen) and sister-in-law Wendy.
Jim was predeceased by his mother Nora, brother Lenny, sisters, Tina and Irene as well as father and mother-in-law Francis and Edith and brother-in-law Jed.
There will be no visitation by request. A funeral mass of celebration will be held Saturday, Dec. 27, 2014, at 10 a.m. in the Parish Church of St. Leonard, Mount Carmel Avenue, with Fr. Ray Huntley officiating. Cremation will follow with burial in Mount Carmel Cemetery at a later date. A luncheon will be held at St. Leonard's Hall, Convent Street, New Waterford immediately following the funeral mass.
Family flowers only. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the VON, Hospice/Palliative Care Society of Cape Breton, Red Cross or a charity of choice.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford.
