It is with great sadness that we announce the “taking up into His loving arms” of Michael Anthony Donovan on Dec. 23, 2014, in Halifax.
Born in Sydney Mines on March 3, 1943, he was the son of the late Tim and Margaret (Royal) Donovan.
He leaves behind to mourn his children, Diane (Steve) Wyatt, Thorold, Ont., Jane (Eddie) Orrell, North Sydney, Tanya (Wade) Huelin, Grimsby, Ont., Michael (Vicky), Coxheath; grandson Mitch, Thorold, Ont., and a special daughter Tammy Clark, Sydney Mines; 12 much loved grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; sisters, Shirley Fraser and Margaret Strickland, and brothers, John, Kenneth, Harold, James, Manuel and Peter, all from Cape Breton, and Tom, Ontario. He is also survived by his close companion of 29 years, Larry Sinclair, and his “body guard” cat, Sassy.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife Dolores, son Todd, sister Jane Rose, and brothers George and Alex (Beaver).
A celebration of Michael’s life will be held on Saturday, Dec. 27, 2014, at 10 a.m. in Holy Family Church, Sydney Mines, with Fr. Thomas John officiating. A reception will take place at the Anavets Unit #381, Bras d’Or, following the service.
In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the nearest food bank, or to a charity of one’s choice.
