SUTTON, LANCE - Lance (Lanny) Eldon Sutton passed away unexpectedly yet peacefully on Thursday December 25th at home following a brief but serious illness. Born on August 1st, 1948 in Saint John, Lance was the son of Mary E. (Betty) Sutton (nee Sweet) and the late Wesley R. Sutton. Lanny is survived and will be lovingly remembered by his wife Linda T. Sutton (nee Gould), son Danny (Melda) Sutton, daughter Alice (Michael) McGovern, Linda's son Stephen (Christine) Shannon, his mother Betty, his brother Terry and three precious grandchildren Brandon and Alexis Sutton, and Sam Shannon (who were the light of his life); special canine companion Brodie; aunts Lila and Wanda, nephew Tony, niece Tanya and a special cousin Sharron. Besides his father, he was predeceased by his sister Wanda. Following graduation from Vocational School in 1967, Lanny joined the Saint John Police Force and after 34 years of service retired at rank of Sergeant. He was also actively involved with the Luxor Shriners. Lanny loved his children and grandchildren and could often be found cheering them on in the stands at hockey, baseball, their performances and special activities. Lanny was their biggest fan and he was very proud of them all.
Donations in Lanny's memory can be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation, the Luxor Shriners, the SPCA Animal Rescue League or to the charity of the donor's choice. Following cremation, visitations will be held from Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road, Saint John (646-2424) on Monday December 29, 2014 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. A Masonic Service will be performed Monday evening at 7 p.m. A Memorial Service will be held from Fundy Funeral Home Chapel on Tuesday December 30, 2014 at 2 p.m., followed by a reception.
