It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of our dear mother and matriarch, Theresa Josephine McNeil on Dec. 26, 2014, at the Glace Bay Hospital, surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Dominion, she was the daughter of the late Daniel Francis and Dorothy Mary (Taylor) McNeil.
Theresa was a longtime member of the former St. Eugene’s Church, Dominion and was a very devoted and proud homemaker. Theresa was actively involved in her community as a member of the Dominion Fire Department ladies auxiliary for over 25 years; she was also a committee member of the LOC Hall and of the Aid for the Exceptional Children (AFTEC), as well as a Eucharistic minister of St. Eugene’s parish.
She with her friend Carole, were well-known caterers in Dominion and Theresa was famous for her gravy and lemon squares. She was an avid bowler, dart player and she truly enjoyed the company of her family and friends. Her hospitality was second to none, as she opened her doors to family, friends, and friends of friends. For many years Theresa hosted many family events at her home, especially the annual fireworks day barbeque and social.
Theresa will be missed by her family and extended family as well as many friends. She was truly a remarkable lady who could not do enough for these people in her life, whether family or acquaintances. She reached out and helped many people in her community.
Theresa will be sadly missed by her loving children; daughters, Robin (Ray Fisher), Kitchener, Ont., Karen (George) Muise, Glace Bay; sons, Kevin (Theresa), Sydney Mines, Jason (Cheryl), Victoria Mines, Shawn (Rhonda MacGillivary), Glace Bay, Jonathan, Mabou. She is also survived by sisters, Jeanette, Frances, Ann Marie and brothers, Daniel, Tony, Terry, Billy, George, Louie and Bobby. Her 13 grandchildren, Blair, Suzanne, Danielle, Jared, Cherie, Katelynn, Brendan, Victoria, Brittany, Taylor, Courtney, Candace and Breanna; along with 14 great-grandchildren and had a very special spot in her heart for her little buddy Aiden. She will also be missed by numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Besides her parents, Theresa was also predeceased by her loving husband Robert Kerr McNeil, son, Darren Bradley, brothers, Joseph, John 'Curly', Roddy, sisters, Marie, Maureen, Dorothy, and Florence Jean in infancy.
Memorial donations in Theresa’s memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or Canadian Diabetes Association.
Visitation for Theresa will be held Tuesday, Dec. 30, 2014, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. A funeral mass will be celebrated 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2014, at Immaculate Conception Church, Glace Bay with Fr. Daniel Boudreau officiating. In honoring Theresa’s wishes cremation will follow.
