David Henderson

PICTOU – David Anderson Henderson, 80, of the Glen Haven Manor, New Glasgow, and formerly of Haliburton Road, Pictou, died peacefully December 26, 2014 in the manor.
David was born August 30, 1932 to Ezra and Pearl (Johnson) Henderson.
He graduated from Pictou Academy in 1950 and Dalhousie University in 1954 with a Bachelor of Commerce. He returned to Pictou to work in A. Henderson & Son Shoe Store, which he took over from his father. In 1975 he sold the store and became the accountant at Edward Mortimer Place Nursing Home until his retirement. David’s greatest love and talent was music. He played the organ at Pictou United Church for 25 years and was on call for weddings and funerals at all the other churches in town. He played at countless concerts, events, gatherings and services throughout the years, which were enjoyed by many. He was also a member of the Eastern Star IOOF Lodge, No. 1, Pictou. David was very kind, and was always ready to help someone in need. In 2007 he was chosen to be the Pictou Volunteer of the Year.
He will be greatly missed by all.
He is survived by his sister, Catherine “Kay” Johns, of Freesoil, Michigan; his nephews, Paul Johns of Seattle, and Douglas Johns of Grand Rapids, Michigan.
Visitation will be held 12:30–2:00 p.m. Friday in Pictou United Church, with funeral to follow at 2 p.m., with Rev. Mary-Beth Moriarity officiating. Burial will be in the family plot in Haliburton Cemetery.
Donations in his memory may be made to the Salvation Army or the Pictou United Church.
