Passed peacefully away at the L.A. Miller Centre on Sunday, December 28, 2014 after a courageous battle with cancer. Predeceased by her parents Peter and Rose-ella Cooney; sister Genevieve "Doll" Penney; brothers William, Fredrick and Robert Cooney. Left to mourn with fond and loving memories her dearest son Glenn (Darlene) Cooney; special grandson Nathan and her niece Joan (John) Abbott who was like a daughter to her along with grandson Justin (Dawn) and their children Ella and Lily. Joan also leaves behind her special niece Judy (Tony) Mahar; sister-in-law Doris Cooney; brother-in-law John Penney as well as a large circle of nieces and nephews. She will be sadly missed by her friends at Cowan Plaza Bingo. Special thanks to the staff at the Dr. H. Bliss Murphy Cancer Centre. Resting at Caul's Funeral Home, LeMarchant Road. Cremation has taken place. Visitation on Friday from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Funeral Mass will take place from Caul's Chapel on Saturday, January 3, 2015 at 11 a.m. with inurnment to follow at Mount Carmel Cemetery. As expressions of sympathy donations in Joan's memory may be made to the Palliative Care Unit at the L.A. Miller Centre.
