With broken hearts the family of Lewis Walter Maxwell, age 88, announces his peaceful passing after a lengthy illness, on Jan. 2, 2015 at the Northside General Hospital, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Sydney Mines, Lewis was the son of the late Robert and Mary Maxwell.

For many years he was a machinist for the Princess Coal Company, and later worked until his retirement as instructor of machine technology at the Eastern Institute of Technology, which later became the College of Cape Breton. Lewis was also a long time elder, choir member and Sunday school teacher at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church in Sydney Mines, and always had an unwavering faith and trust in God.
Lewis is survived by his loving wife, Dorothy and sadly missed by daughters, Kim (Donnie) Brown and Cathy Hutchings; stepdaughter, Donna (Doug) Howley and stepson, Wayne (Marjorie) Sawchuk.
He was the proud grandfather of grandchildren, Ryan, Dustin, Josh, Nia, Morgan, Ashton, Timmy, Michael, Corey, Mary and Kristine and great-grandchildren, Georgia, Brooklyn, Matthew and Karli. Lewis will also be dearly missed by his nephew, Bobby (Donelda) Ferguson.
Besides his parents, Lewis was predeceased by his sister, Violet Ferguson.
