Dorothy A. Simon, 59 of 5 Castle Bay Rd., Eskasoni, passed away peacefully on Saturday, Jan. 3, 2015, at her home.
Born in Sydney, she was the daughter of the late Noel and Mary (Paul) Simon.
Dorothy was a member of Holy Family parish, Eskasoni. She was employed as a day care worker at Ksite’ taqnk and also at Eskasoni Elementary-Jr. High as a teacher. She loved her music and was a fine musician on several instruments; she did seamstress work and Mikmaq arts and crafts.
Dorothy is survived by daughters, Johanna Lee Francis, Charinda Johnson; sons, John Stephen Francis, Joseph Allan Francis Jr., Stephen Peter Francis, all of Eskasoni and by their father, Joseph Francis; a sister, Viney Sapier; brothers, Noel Joseph Simon, James Valentine (Patricia) Simon, Stephen Michael (Margaret) Simon, Louis, all of Eskasoni and five grandchildren, Faith, Malik, Maris, Laya and Anjelikah, several godchildren and her best friend, Arlene Sylliboy.
She was predeceased by two sisters, Cecelia and Jean and three brothers, John ‘Jackie’, Andrew ‘Antle’ and Alfred and by two godchildren, Warren Dennis and Cory Dennis.
Visitation for Dorothy Simon will begin after 7 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 8, 2015 at the family residence, 5 Castle Bay Rd., Eskasoni. Funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 10, 2015 at Holy Family Church with Rev. Martin MacDougall officiating. Interment in Holy Family Parish Cemetery, Eskasoni.
