It is with sadness that we, the family, announce the passing of our dear mother Ellen MacKenzie on Tuesday, Jan. 6, at the Glace Bay Hospital, surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Smeltbrook, she was the daughter of the late John Michael and Mary Ellen (Benvie) Fitzgerald.
She was a member of St Leo’s Ladies Auxiliary for over 30 years. Ellen enjoyed knitting and spending time with her family.
Ellen is survived by her daughters, Gennie MacDonald (Jim), Natalie MacDonald (Billy), Karen Jewells (Joey); grandchildren, Darren, Robin, Susan, Crystal, Angie, Blair, Victoria, Amber and Joseph; seven great-grandchildren; sister, Sandra Sajotovich; several nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Charlie MacKenzie and brother, Eddy Fitzgerald
Visitation will be held on Friday, Jan. 9, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Curry’s Glace Bay Funeral Home, 775 Main St. A funeral mass will be celebrated 10 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 10th, St Anne’s Church with the Rev. Leo Boone officiating. The interment will take place at a later date in the parish cemetery.
