Donald Winchester

Donald Winchester

WINCHESTER, DONALD JAMES - Donald James Winchester of Darlings Island, loving husband of the late Luanna (Moffitt) Winchester, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, January 7, 2015. Born in Saint John on February 26, 1956, he was a son of the late Lee and Remelda (Ross) Winchester. Donnie was a talented and skilled craftsman, especially in historic restorations. He took great pride in his work. He taught many young people the trade of bricklaying at NBCC over the years. He was highly involved in many uptown projects, including Red Rose Tea, the Coast Guard Building, Loyalist Burial Ground, and Market Square. He was a dedicated member of BAC Local 1 for 39 years. Donnie was the life of any event; he spent most of his time with his friends, who were his chosen family. Together they played in a pool league, darts, went canoeing, and camping. They travelled to Nascar races, and faithfully watched every race. Donnie definitely lived life to the fullest. He always had a smile on his face, especially when he was being his typical prankster self, and let’s not forget “I sorry”. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Donnie was an active parent to his children, step-children, and grandchildren. We take comfort in knowing that Luanna got the best birthday present of all; her beloved Donnie. Donnie is survived by his son Adam (Sabrina) of Spencerville, ON, daughter Amy (Joe Brothers), step-children Michael (Heather) of Edmonton, and Sarah of Saint John, four brothers; Eric (Christina), Christopher, Stephen (Margaret), and Lee (Tracey); five sisters; Lorraine (Donald) Cullins, Karen (Barry) Carleton, Susan (David) Allen, Ann (Anthony) Smith, Janie (Robert) Mote, as well as four grandchildren; Walker, Heidi, Abby and Jake, and one due in April.
Resting at Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road, Saint John (646-2424), with visiting on Saturday and Sunday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from St. Joachim’s Church on Monday, January 12th at 2:00 pm. Interment will take place in St. Joseph’s Cemetery. For those who wish, remembrances to either the Children’s Wish Foundation or the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated by the family.
