Shirley Peacock
PEACOCK, SHIRLEY ELIZABETH - It is with heavy hearts that the family of Shirley (Hickman) Peacock announce her passing on January 13, 2015 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. She was born in Saint John, NB in 1930, to the late Harold and Nettie (Craft) Hickman. Shirley was a well-known business owner in the city of Saint John for many years, running Peacocks Garden Center with her family until it closed its doors in 2005. She was a whirlwind of activity, going from morning until night without stopping. She loved to cook and bake for family get-togethers and holidays and was always so concerned that everyone was well fed before she sat down. In her younger years, she was very athletic, and was known as a fantastic speed skater, an avid golfer, curler, and her children fondly remember her teaching them how to swim and ski. She loved hockey and could talk to anyone about it. As she got older, she didn’t participate in as many sports but her and Bruce loved to spend their summers sailing as members of the RKYC. She will be sadly missed by all who knew her. She is survived by her loving husband Bruce of Saint John, their three children; Robert, Anne Marks (Rick) and Sandra Keith (Cory), all of Saint John, her six precious grandchildren; Jessica, Benjamin, David, Stephen, Emily and Rachel, and her sisters; Elsie Craft, Barbara Nixon (George), Norma Love, Winnifred Goguen and Charlotte Hickman, along with several nieces, nephews and cousins. Along with her parents, Shirley was predeceased by her five brothers; Francis, Raymond, Donald, Lloyd and James.
Resting at Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road (646-2424) with visitation on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8pm. A funeral service will be held from Fundy Funeral Home Chapel on Friday, January 16, 2015 at 2pm. Donations in Shirley’s memory made to the charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family.
