Francis Forestell

FORESTELL, FRANCIS WILLIAM - (1928 - 2015) - It is with sadness that we announce the death of Frank Forestell on January 17, 2015, in Fredericton. Born and raised in Saint John, he was the son of the late Harry and Katherine (McGrath) Forestell. He was a graduate of St. Francis Xavier University and the University of Montreal. For more than thirty-five years, he worked in the field of probation, both in the Juvenile Court in Saint John and the Provincial Government in Fredericton. He was very active in his profession, having been one of the organizers of the Atlantic Provincial Correctional Association, the New Brunswick Probation Association, and the International Probation Organization. He was a recipient of the Canadian Correctional Exemplary Service Medal. In his earlier years, he was active in many community organizations, having been President of the John Howard Society in Saint John, President of the St. Patrick’s Society of Fredericton, and was involved with Big Brothers. He served on the Board of Directors of the United Way of Fredericton and was an active member of the Fredericton Curling Club. Frank was a member of St. Dunstan’s Parish, having formerly served on the Parish Council. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus. Summers with his family and extended family at his cottage at Robertson’s Point were his most treasured moments. Besides his wife Margaret (Duffie), he is survived by sons Andrew (Diane), Donald, and daughter Katherine Campbell (Patrick), all of Fredericton, and five loving grand-children, Sophie, Robert, Caroline, Anya, and Julia. He is also survived by two sisters, Elinor Sheehan and Sr. Barbara Forestell, both of Saint John. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by one sister, Katherine, and five brothers, John, James, Harry, David, and Thomas.
Visitation will be at McAdam’s Funeral Home, 160 York St., Fredericton on Wednesday, January 21 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Dunstan’s Roman Catholic Church at 12:05 pm on Thursday, January 22nd with Fr. Bill Brennan as celebrant Interment will be at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Frank may be made to the New Brunswick Lung Association, The Arthritis Society, St. Dunstan’s Parish, or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
