With her family at her bedside sharing heartwarming memories of her life, Helen passed peacefully away at her home on January 27, 2015, while her family shared laughter and tears. Leaving to mourn her loss and rejoice in the life she shared with them, are her adoring husband and best friend of 54 years, Tom, and their children, Ann Marie Mixer (Jim), Debbie Kavanagh (John), Sandy Woods, Tom Purcell (Jo-Ann), Karen Cole (John), and grandchildren, Melissa, Bob, Matthew, Brandon, Tim and Julie. Helen was born in Brooklyn, New York to Mary and Michael Gosse, originally from St. John's. She came to Newfoundland to visit her grandmother in 1955 and met Tom. And so began a love story that would last her lifetime and beyond. Helen devoted her life to her family and their well-being. Love and laughter were part of every day and she gave selflessly to those she loved. Helen taught her children respect, integrity and strong faith were essential aspects of a good life, but laughter, love and everyday hugs were equally important. And there were many hugs. She was an incredible woman, wife, mother, and friend. We love you truly. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will take place on Friday, January 30, 2015 from 1p.m. - 4 p.m. and 7 p.m.-9 p.m. at Cauls Funeral Home, LeMarchant Road. Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, January 31, 2015 from St. Patrick's Roman Catholic Church, Patrick Street, St. John's at 9:30 a.m. Internment will take place at a later date at the request of the family. Helen fought the ravages of arthritis for many years and we ask that any donations in her memory be made to The Arthritis Society.
