It is with great sadness that we, the family, announce the passing of our beloved Francis Currie on Friday, Jan. 30, 2015 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Glace Bay, Francis was the son of the late William Alexander and Penelope (O’Regan) Currie.
Francis was employed at Sydney Steel Plant and Mendelson’s Variety Mart for many years. He loved playing darts, cards, playing the fiddle, as well as listening to Donnie Campbell. Also Francis enjoyed the Montreal Expos.
Francis will be sadly missed by his loving wife of 49 years, Shirley (Pyke); daughters, Deanna (Bruce) Hennessey, Frances (Wayne) Somerton, Norma Jean (Jimmy) Currie, Shirley Marie (Chickie) Currie; siblings, Bernice (Jim) Currie, Katie (Charlie) Browner, Naish (Jackie) Currie, Tina Hall, David (Margaret) Currie; cherished grandchildren, Darnelle, Jefferey, Christopher, Collin, Dwayne, Dale, Jarrot, Alyssa, Bretton, Michael, Rebecca; great-grandchildren, Mason, Milley, Owen, Kiley and Garrett. Also to Phyllis who Dinky loved like his daughter; many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Francis was predeceased by brothers, Little Billy, Joe Currie; sisters, Mary Jeans, Penelope Cox and grandson, Darren Currie.
There will be no visitation by request. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, Feb. 5, at 2 p.m. in Curry’s Glace Bay Funeral Home, 775 Main St., with Rev. Patrick O’Neill officiating. Following the service a luncheon will be held at the Hub Club.
