It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Catherine 'Katie' Roach, 94, of Maple Hill Manor, New Waterford, on Tuesday, Feb. 3, 2015, at the Manor.
Born in Cheticamp, she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Margaret (Aucoin) Poirier.
Katie was a member of the former Mount Carmel Parish, currently the Parish Church of St. Leonard. She loved to sew and quilt and was best known for baking the greatest blueberry biscuits for all her grandchildren to enjoy. Katie truly loved to go on camping trips and did so for over 40 years to various places in Cheticamp, P.E.I. and New Brunswick.
Surviving are her children, Hector (Nancy), Fredericton, N.B., Clarence (Vivian), Burlington, Ont., Marie (Archie) MacKinnon, New Waterford and Betty (Chester) Muise, Cheticamp; daughter-in-law, Edie Roach, New Waterford; sister, Jeannette Magliaro, Sydney; grandchildren, Colleen, Todd, Robbie, Billy, Sarah, Blair, Cynthia, Andrew and Janelle; eight great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, Katie was predeceased by her husband Peter, son, Patrick, brothers, Willie, George, Charlie, Albert, and Lubie, sisters, Julie, Annie, Rosanne, Mary Louise, and Elizabeth, special niece, Theresa McCue.
There will be no visitation. A funeral mass of celebration will be held in the Parish Church of St. Leonard, Mount Carmel Avenue, New Waterford, at a later date. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, New Waterford.
Donations in her memory may be made to a charity of one's choice.
