She is survived by three sons, Dr. Don Smith (Jim Nason), Toronto and Paul Weeks (Marlene) and David Weeks (Maurice Gallant) of P.E.I. She also leaves two much-loved granddaughters and six beautiful great-grandchildren: Tanya Garnhum (Scott) and their children: Harrison, Lilla, Pearce and Camden and Paula Pollard (Kent) and their children: Cheyenne and Peyton. She will be sorely missed by close family friend Susan Willis.
Bernice was born in Cornwall, P.E.I., to Daniel and Esther (Godfrey) MacArthur. She was predeceased by three brothers: Charles (twin brother), Douglas and Preston.
Bernice is survived by her sister, Bessie Crosby, of Charlottetown.
In 1951, Bernice married her love, John Weeks of Winsloe, and enjoyed almost 58 years together until John's death in 2009. Bernice and John had two boys, Paul and David. Bernice's early career included teaching and during the Second World War she joined the services and served as a Nursing Sister. Bernice nursed after her return but stopped to raise her family. Bernice returned to nursing for a number of years when the boys were teenagers. Bernice was very active in her community and served on many organizations. Church was a big part of her life - for many years Highfield United and then Park Royal United. Bernice will be lovingly remembered for her love and kindness - first to her family and then to many friends and neighbours. Many people benefited from her cooking over the years. Bernice was a very social person who loved 'to be on the go' and was always up for a party. She loved to write and over the years penned many poems.
