Donald Richard
RICHARD, DONALD JOSEPH
It is with tremendous sadness the Richard family announces the peaceful passing of Donald Joseph Richard, husband of Debra (Graves) Richard, which occurred on February 4th, 2015 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Donald was born in Saint John, NB on October 1, 1954, the son of Rita (Belliveau) Richard and the late Elie Richard.
Don enjoyed his career at Crosby’s Molasses and, in his early years, he was a volunteer fireman with the Bradley Lake Fire Department. Donald was a family man who cherished the quality times with his wife and children—he would never miss an event in their lives. The family trailer at Green Acres was a special spot for Don and his family. You could always find him on the 4-wheeler or at the campfire. He was best known for his infectious grin and his lifelong devotion to baseball, hockey—both ball hockey and ice hockey—and his loyalty to his teams; particularly the Montreal Canadiens and Montreal Expos. Don loved travelling, had a great sense of humour and loved life. Donald and Debra have been married for 39 years.
Besides his mother, Donald is survived by his wife Debra and daughter; Janna Richard of Saint John and 2 sons; Christopher (Chantal) of Brampton, Ontario and Mark (Carrie) of Quispamsis. He is also survived by two brothers; Leo (Joanne) and John (Theresa) of Saint John and two sisters; Helen McKinnon (Richard) of Quispamsis and Jeanette of Saint John. Don will be missed and loved by his six grandchildren; Taylor, Dylann, Ryan, Ayden, Carsyn and Emily.
Don is also survived my mother-in-law Jean Graves; sisters-in-law Jane (Billy) Miller and Elizabeth Cochrane; brothers-in-law Michael (Maxine) Graves, James (Linda) Graves and Patrick (Janet) Graves; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Don was predeceased by his father Elie Richard and father-in-law George Graves.
The family would like to extend their gratitude and appreciation to the many angels who were part of Don’s journey: the staff of Oncology and Palliative Care at Saint John Regional Hospital; Drs. Terry Comeau, André LeRoux, Chris O’Brien, Anthony Reiman and Wendy Smith; Extra Mural nurses; Father David Fulton and the many neighbours and friends who provided love and support, especially Janna’s coworkers from the Respiratory Therapy department.
Donald will be resting at the Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland RD (646-2424), with visitation being held on Friday, February 6th 2014 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm, Saturday, 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 pm and Sunday 2:00 to 6:00 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, February 9th at 11:00 am from St. Pius X Church. Interment will follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery. Donations in memory of Don may be placed with the Canadian Cancer Society, SJRH Palliative Care or Extra Mural Program.
