PORTER, MARY
Mary E. Taylor Porter passed away on Saturday, February 7, 2015 at Carleton Manor in Woodstock, N.B. in her 88thyear. Mary was born in May 1927 in Kirkland, Carleton County, N.B. to James Watt Taylor and Meta Slater Taylor. She lived in Kirkland, Elmwood and Debec before moving to Woodstock in 1986.
Mary was predeceased by her parents, her husband, Elmer L. Porter (1920-1973), her son, Richard E. Porter (1952-1986) and her daughter, Carol Ann Porter (1962-2003). Mary was also predeceased by brothers, Kenneth Taylor (Helen) of Saint John, N.B., Sydney Taylor (Phyllis) of Bangor, Maine, and Donald Taylor of Boston, as well as sisters, Margaret Armour (John) of Debec, and Lina Kennedy (John), of Woodstock.
Mary Porter is survived by two sons, Gordon L. Porter (Carolyn), Woodstock and Donald E. Porter, Fredericton; grandchildren, Timothy Porter (Valeri Durbin), Hanwell, N.B., Jane Porter, Woodstock, Jeremy Porter, Fredericton, and Keely Cougle, Woodstock; great-grandchildren, Emily Porter Logan, Moncton, Adam Porter and Anna Porter, Hanwell. Mary is also survived by her sister-in-law, Joan Porter (Lewis) of Woodstock, as well as many nieces and nephews and their families in both Canada and the U.S.A.
Mary attended school in Elmwood and Debec, worked in the Debec post office and in drug stores in Saint John and Woodstock. She was an active partner of her husband Elmer in operating their general store in Debec for more than 28 years. Mary was a faithful member of Trinity United Church, Debec and St. James United Church, Woodstock. In later years Mary was a loyal supporter of local music nights in Woodstock and surrounding area and made many friends as a result. Mary was a kind, thoughtful and faithful daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother and friend.
There will be no visitation at this time. A funeral and memorial service to celebrate Mary’s life will be held at a later date. Burial will be at the Lower Meductic Cemetery, Meductic, N.B.
The family asks that donations in Mary’s memory from family and friends be directed to the Trinity United Church, Debec, St. James United Church, Woodstock, or a charity of choice.
