NEW GLASGOW – Shirley Anne Callaghan, age 80, of New Glasgow, passed away Friday, February 13, 2015 in the Aberdeen Hospital.
Born in Pictou, she was a daughter of the late Herbert and Doris (MacDonald) Dee.
She was a long time employee of Kmart. She was a member of the First United Church, choir, UCW and was a CGIT leader. She was a member of the Women Alike Dragon Boat team and the Order of the Eastern Star.
Shirley is survived by sons: Gary and James, both of New Glasgow; brothers: Aubrey (Ethel), Pine Tree; Herbie (Carol), Wallace; Sandy (Trudy), Toronto; sisters-in-law: Eva Dee, Trenton; Ann Callaghan, New Glasgow; brother-in-law, Charles MacLean, New Glasgow; many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by husband, William “Blinker” Callaghan and brother, William “Bill” Dee.
The family would like to thank Dr. Gerry Farrell, Dr. Melanie MacCara, Palliative Care nurses, VON and the home care girls.
Visitation 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Monday in the R.H. Porter Funeral Home, New Glasgow. Funeral service 11 a.m. Tuesday in the First United Church Hall, Trenton, with Rev. Wade Reppert officiating. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery at a later date.
Donations in her memory may be made to Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation, Aberdeen Palliative Care Society, First United Church or a charity of choice.
