Date de décès : 16 février 2015
It is with great sadness and broken hearts that we, the family of Julius Mesics, Sydney River, announce his passing at the age of 78. Julius passed away peacefully in the palliative care unit of the C.B. Regional Hospital, Monday, Feb. 16, 2015.
Born in Magyarlak, Hungary, Julius was the son of the late Gyula and Elizabeth (Puskas) Mesics.
During turbulent times in his home country in 1956, Julius and companions came to Canada for a better life. Arriving in Sydney for work as a woodcutter, Julius met the love of his life, Ann, who has been by his side for 54 years. Early on, Julius had a keen entrepreneurial spirit, and in 1964 he started Sydney Landscaping & Nurseries Ltd. Over the next 50 years, Julius touched many lives, and built his company into one of the largest landscaping companies in the province, working on countless commercial and residential projects throughout Cape Breton. A highly respected businessman, Julius served on the board of Landscape Atlantic for a number of years, and received the Bowman Award from the Construction Association on N.S. in 2004.
In his leisure time, Julius was an avid golfer and enjoyed travelling the world. He combined these loves when he and Ann began spending their winters in Florida. He was particularly proud of his home swimming pool, keeping it sparkling for all to enjoy. A die-hard Toronto Maple Leaf fan, his loyalty never faltered.
Julius is survived by his wife, Ann (Porga) Mesics; brother, Laci (Magdolna), Hungary; son, Gary (Sandra), Sydney River; daughter, Liz Walker, Whitecourt, Alberta; his precious grandchildren, Carl (Sandra), Jeremy (Kaitlyn) and Holly; his very special great-grandchildren, Joshua and Rebecca; his nephew, Zoli (Brigi) Mesics, Hungray and many nieces and nephews on Ann’s side of the family.
Julius was predeceased by his brothers-in-law, Stanley Katryk, Rudy Porga, Frankie Porga and nephew Danny Porga.
