With heavy hearts and deep-rooted sadness we announce the sudden passing of David 'Dave' Landry at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital on Feb. 19, 2015, while both comforted and surrounded by his adoring family.
Dave was born in Sydney, N.S. on July 12, 1950, and since then has made our world a very special place.
He was the son of Celene and James Landry and they’d have been enormously proud of the generous and caring man he always was.
Dave is survived by the love of his life and soulmate Carol Genter; his children, Jonathan, Chelsea and David Carl, as well as his grandchildren, David Joseph and Alice. His constant canine companion Harley will carry on his spirit with every wag of her tail.
Also mourning Dave’s loss will be his brother Johnny (Donna); his sister Terry (Johnny Nick) Nicolson; his sisters-in-law Valarie and Glenda; his mother and father in-law Alma and Joe Genter; his sister-in-law Sharon Magee (Nathan); his brother-in-law Wayne Genter (Cecila); and nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly and has a special place in his heart, along with uncles and aunts.
Dave was predeceased by his parents, Celene and James and also by his brothers, Freddie and Jimmy, and his uncle Bernie (Ace) MacIssac.
Dave Landry was admired by all who knew him and that special sparkle he had in his eye and marvelous sense of humour were constant. Dave was a man who lived to work and had a passion for a good game of tarabish and the Saturday or Sunday night gin rummy games with family. He put everyone else first — a give you the shirt off his back kind of guy.
Most recently Dave worked for Quantum Murray LP Northern Projects and AMD Landscaping, and his work ethic and dedication were strong. He was a long-standing member of Local 721 International Operating Engineers.
Our family would like to thank Dr. Gracie, Dr. Burns, the staff of 4B and the staff of palliative care. A special thank you to Dr. MacLaughlin.
Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday. Funeral will take place 11 a.m. Wednesday, both in the S.W. Chant and Son Funeral Home, 564 Alexandra Street, Sydney, with Rev. Laura McCue officiating.
