David Jones

JONES, DAVID IAN P.ENG.
It is with great sadness that the family of Ian Jones, husband of Lilias Jones, announce his sudden passing at his home on February 24, 2015. Born on September 5, 1944 in Bebington, England, he was the son of Phyllis Jones (England) and the late Ronald Jones.

Ian was a Professional Engineer (Naval Architect) and spent most of his working career at Saint John Shipbuilding in various management roles. He was an avid sports enthusiast, playing and following many sports including swimming, soccer, rugby, tennis, golf, skiing, and his favourite “Liverpool FC ‘You will never walk alone’”. He taught his boys how to play each of them with his motto being to “get stuck in” which sometimes lead to bruising. In later years he always wanted to keep up to date with how his Grandchildren were progressing. They have many fond memories of spending time with their Grampy. Ian also volunteered in his community. After coaching both of his boys through minor soccer, he also volunteered and coached the boys and the girls’ soccer teams at Prince Charles School.

Ian loved his boat and was a member of the RKYC for a number of years including a couple as the Fleet Captain. In retirement, Ian worked part time at Canadian Tire on the west side, which he truly enjoyed.

Besides his mother and wife, Ian is survived by his sons; David Jones (Heidi), Peter Jones (Tracey), his step-daughters; Sarah Law (Peter) and Pamela MacKay (Robert). He is also survived by his grandchildren; Jennifer (Connor), Nicola, Harrison, Ryan, Kristian, Claire, and River and his great-grandchildren Bryce and MacKenzie.

Arrangements are under the care of Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, (634-7424). By Ian’s request, there will be no funeral service and also by request, no flowers. Friends and relatives are welcome to attend a gathering to be held at Brenan’s Reception Centre on Sunday, March 1, 2015 from 2 to 4 pm. For those who wish, remembrances can be made to P.A.L.S. and online condolences can be placed at www.brenansfh.com.
