PARSONS, Maxwell — The family of Max Parsons is saddened to announce that Max died early in the morning on January 17, 2009 at Chancellor Park Nursing Home, St. John’s. Born in St. John’s on June 2, 1912, and predeceased by his wife, Marjorie (Mills) and sister Marjorie, Max will be remembered as the long-time proprietor of the Arthur Parsons and Son Grocers on New Gower Street. An avid boater all his life, Max was a member of the Avalon Yacht Club and a past-Commodore of the Royal Newfoundland Yacht Club. He was very proud of his son Dr. Arthur Parsons (Patricia), Halifax and of his three grandchildren Brad (Maureen), Amanda Bigelow (Andrew) and Ian, all of Toronto. The funeral service will be held from Barrett’s Chapel, 328 Hamilton Ave. on Wednesday, January 21st at 2 p.m. Interment will follow at Mount Pleasant Cemetery. Max so loved a party; in this spirit, we’ll celebrate his life at the Delta Hotel, Salon E, on the site of his grocery store on January 21st from 4 to 6 p.m. No flowers please, but he would have welcomed a donation in his memory to the charity of your choice.
