William (Bill) Cadigan, LL.B, age 54, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, March 1st, 2015. Predeceased by his mother Catherine, he leaves to mourn his buddy and partner Alanna Greene, his most cherished sons, Teddy and Jack, his treasured step-daughter Anna Winter, the boy's Mom Janet Case, his sister Suzy Power (Frank) and his father David (Patricia) along with a very large circle of friends. William (Bill) A. Cadigan was born and raised in St. John's, a student at St. Bon's and Brother Rice High School, graduating in 1977. Bill acquired degrees in pharmacy and philosophy but found his true professional calling in the law. Bill received his LL.B. from the University of New Brunswick in 1989, completing his articles with Public Prosecutions. After his call to the bar on April 11th,1990, Bill practiced law with the firm of O'Brien, Furey, Smith where he remained until July of 1997. In 1997 Bill was appointed Executive Director of the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary Association, where he remained until April of 2000. During his time with the RNCA, Bill provided legal advice to the Association's Executive and represented individual officers on matters requiring the assistance of legal counsel. Bill joined Public Prosecutions in 2000 as a Crown Attorney, an occupation he was devoted to until his passing. Always mindful of his duties as a Crown Attorney, Bill approached his cases with fairness and the heart of an advocate. Bill had a tremendously quick wit and a vast sense of humor. He was immensely popular with his colleagues, the defence bar, court staff, members of the RNC, and even many of those he prosecuted. While he wore his humor on his sleeve, lesser known was his keen sense of compassion for persons, who owing to whatever circumstances, were suffering through tough times, especially persons who were mentally ill, down on their luck, or life had gotten the better of. Bill will be missed greatly by his colleagues. Beyond his contributions to morale, he was never too busy to help, never said he could not do something, and cared about the well-being of those doing the challenging work of prosecutors. Billy is irreplaceable. He will be remembered, mourned and celebrated by far too many to mention. Resting at Caul's Funeral Home LeMarchant Road. Visitation on Thursday and Friday from 2 pm - 4 pm and 7 pm - 9 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Saturday, March 7, 2015 at 9:30 am at St. Teresa's Church, with cremation to Follow. Inurnment to be held on Monday, March 9, 2015 at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
