SEARS, Larry Wayne, 64, Shag Harbour, passed away on Monday, March 9, 2015. Born in Shag Harbour on January 2, 1951, he was a son of the late Alfred Lawrence Sears and Ruby Elizabeth (Atkinson) Sears. He was active in conservation measures to preserve the swordfish stock through satellite tagging. He also appeared in the PBS documentary “Saving Our Ocean”. He was the Vice President for the Swordfish Harpoon Group, the Harbour Manager of Shag Harbour Wharf and was a member of the Advent Christian Church, Bear Point. He enjoyed his time spent on Cape Negro Island. Larry was an avid duck hunter. He enjoyed his work of lobstering and swordfishing as if it were a hobby. He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Lillian (Lyle) Sears; mother, Ruby Sears; mother-in-law, Barbara (Jean) Lyle (Robie); daughters, Brenda Sears, Ontario; Virginia (Rick) Taché, Ontario; Stephanie Sears (Amos), Alberta; step-daughter, Theresa (Shawn) Smith, Clyde River; siblings, Gloria Banks, Yarmouth; Fredrick Sears, Shag Harbour/Nfld; Judith (Michael) Malone, Shag Harbour; Kathy Porter, Yarmouth; Alfred Jr. (Sonny) (Sharon), Truro; 7 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. Aside from his father he was predeceased by step-daughter, Gidget Nickerson. There will be a visitation on Saturday from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at the H. M. Huskilson’s Funeral Home, Barrington. The funeral service will be held Sunday, March 15, at 2 p.m. from the H. M. Huskilson’s Memorial Chapel, Barrington, with Rev. Alvin McComiskey officiating. Interment to follow in the Old Farm Cemetery, Shag Harbour. Family flowers only. Memorial donations may be made to the Gidget Nickerson Memorial Bursary.
