Lieu de décès : Glace Bay
Date de décès : 12 mars 2015
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our wife, mother and grandmother, Ella Rita Landru on March 12, 2015, at Glace Bay Hospital.
Ella was born in Glace Bay on Dec. 3, 1931 to the late Joe and Marion Anna (Payne) Kelloway.
Ella was a member of Holy Cross Church, Glace Bay. Her faith was as solid as a rock as mom would always begin her day praying for those on her prayer list. You could always see her walking around Renwick Brook ‘with the girls’. She was a homemaker by profession but for many years helped dad with the family business. Even by today’s standards she would have been considered a remarkable business woman. Mom and Dad enjoyed many years traveling with Nova Bus Tours, where they were affectionately referred to as El & Em. Her travels took her as far away as Europe, where she fell in love with Austria.
She is survived by her loving husband of 62 years, Emile; children, Pauline (John) McIsaac & Gerald (Louise) Landru; grandchildren, Bryan (Margaret-Anne), Joanna, Ian (Devon) and great–granddaughter, Ella Paige; step-grandchildren, Donna (Mike), Anne (Spyro) and step-great-grandchildren, Steven, Mikaela & Christopher. She is also survived by her brothers, Murray (Joan), Sonny (D.A.); sisters, Thelma MacDonald, Jean Hartling, Diane MacMillan, Colette MacPhee, Marion Madore and special sister-in-law, Gatha Kelloway; many nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, mom was predeceased by sisters, Olga, Theresa and Betty; brothers, Jack, Walter and Gerry in infancy.
As per Ella’s wishes, there will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. A funeral mass to celebrate her life will be held Monday, March 16 at 10 a.m. in Holy Cross Church with Fr. Norman MacPhee officiating. Burial will be in St. Anne’s cemetery at a later date. A luncheon will be held in the church hall immediately following the funeral mass.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association, Hospice/Palliative Care Society of Cape Breton or a charity of one’s choice.
Online expressions of sympathy may be sent to the family at: www.vjmcgillivray.ca.
We would like to give special thanks to Dr. Yavari, Dr. Moamer and the 3rd floor nurses at the Glace Bay Hospital.
