SQUIRES, Phyllis Naomi (nee Martin) (July 23, 1923 - January 17, 2009)— Passed away suddenly but peacefully in the arms of her daughter Carole on Topsail Road. Predeceased by husband William, Oct. 1984; sons: Private Wayne, May 1973; Kenneth May 1986; Victor, April 2008; son-in-law Cliff Gosse, August 2008, also parents Ambrose and Annie Martin; as well as all of her siblings. Leaving to mourn and celebrate her life, with many loving memories are her children: Canon Shirley Gosse (Charles); Carole Gosse; Charlie Squires (Carolanne); Jean Hancock (Terry); Glenda Winter (Mark); Carl Squires (Cathy); and Allan Squires (Joan); foster son George Tilley; 13 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren, sisters-in-law: Winnie English and Jessie Hempson, as well as a large number of nieces and nephews. She was especially close to nephew Archdeacon John Sharpe and niece Jean Tucker. Also mourning her loss are friends: Ruth Halliday and Kay Janes, her hairdresser. Resting at Carnell’s Funeral Home, Sunday 7 to 9 p.m.; Monday 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., Tuesday 10 a.m. to 12 noon.
