It is with heavy hearts, that we announce the passing of Harry Frederick Mitchell
on Tuesday, March 17, 2015, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
Born in Glace Bay, Harry was the son of the late Henry and Lila (Clarke) Mitchell.
A carpenter by trade, Harry was employed with Kent Homes and built houses all over Cape Breton Island. In his later years, Harry’s hobby’s included woodworking, gardening and creating Christmas decorations.
Harry is survived by one daughter, Carollee (Mitchell) MacKinnon; his very special friend, Annie Smith; his sisters, Lila Reid, Ontario, Shirley White, Glace Bay; and brother, Sheldon, Glace Bay.
Harry was predeceased by his wife, Beverly (MacDonald) Mitchell, a son in infancy, son-in-law, Kevin MacKinnon, father-in-law, 'Big' Roddie MacDonald, mother-in-law, Irene MacDonald, his special nephew, Darrel Currie and sisters, Etta, Hazel and Doreen.
Harry will also be sadly missed by friends, Wilma, Brad, Don, Erin and Ryan Crowell, Ed Smith, Bill, Elizabeth, Corey, Amanda, Jackson, Lincoln, Courtney, Brooklyn and Adam Smith, Rose, Trevor, Shelby and Eric McInnis; his special nephew, Troy MacDonald and many nieces and nephews.
Cremation has taken place and in accordance with Harry’s wishes there will be no visitation. A funeral mass officiated by Fr. Leo Boone will be held, Friday, March 27, at 10 a.m., in St. Anne’s Church, Glace Bay. A reception will be held in the church foyer. Interment will take place at a later date in the parish cemetery.
As an expression of sympathy for Harry, donations in his memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or charity of one’s choice.
